There are many movements within Buddhism that implicitly look down on certain things.
For example, it’s often assumed that humans have a “higher” consciousness than animals. It’s also assumed that the mental is “higher” than the physical, and that transcending the physical body is something noble.
It’s like in fairy tales: the moment you look down on things, you make a big mistake. The moment you think you have to look at your feelings from your mind, you’re already assuming that you are better than your feelings — and you’re not. The moment you assume that daydreaming is bad, you’re also making a big mistake.
Buddhism in itself can be egoistic. And be honest: how many times today did you really think about someone else? Or were you too busy doing breathing exercises?
That’s the difference between religion and Buddhism.
Behind the scenes, we know this: consciousness is a journey you make through your body and through the universe’s consciousness. Buddha didn’t even make it through level 1 — understanding, at a fundamental level, that we literally carry life with our bodies. I am a man, and I literally carry life with me. A woman then takes over and carries that life for an additional nine months — the biggest sacrifice there is.
In Buddhism, this is reduced to level 1 “survival instinct,” which is so belittling it’s ridiculous. And that’s also why Buddha didn’t make it through level 1. Or is this my ego talking? You idiots — there is no other word for it.
In a few years, we will realize how conscious animals actually are, and what we did to them.
You have to take your feelings very seriously.
Feelings live in your body. If you don’t take your feelings seriously, you’re not taking your body seriously — and that’s not good.
What happens when you don’t take your feelings seriously, and therefore don’t take yourself seriously?
You keep stacking and stacking things on top of each other, until your body forces you to take your feelings seriously. That’s the moment you become a hypochondriac. Your body now makes you take every sensation seriously. You’ve been stacking.
