I have ADHD. One of the major differences between me and other people is how quickly my thoughts and feelings follow one another. For the average person, the span between one thought and the next may be a minute. For me, it's about three seconds.
Thoughts and feelings following one another are like high waves all the time. The sea is seldom calm.
Because of that, I have implemented many religious rituals into my day (I'm sorry—I stole them from you), and they help tremendously. I have built in moments of silence where I don't have to do anything except surrender to the present moment. Metaphorically, this calms the sea within me. It feels like I finally have some tools to be the boss in my own body instead of being bossed around by chaos, which doesn't seem fair.
