Does objective reality exist?
Sure. Let’s say it exists.
In objective reality, it’s good for me to eat 3,103 calories a day, don’t eat a lot of sugar, and I need 1.3 baskets of tomatoes every day.
That’s perfect, objective reality. So, when I am in the supermarket, I know exactly what to do. I think things like:
“Hmm, let me get this 2% yoghurt instead of the 10%, or I’ll take the 10% because my fat intake has been low lately.”
The problem is that in subjective reality, let’s call it real life, your boss is nagging you all day, your colleagues are worried about things, and so you pick up their tension. You get tired, and you constantly have to control yourself not to actually attack somebody.
So after a day of work, when you go to the supermarket, your decision tree is sometimes like this:
“Why is everybody looking at me?”
“I am never eating carbs again. I am going full keto forever!”
“Hmm, I deserve a lot of ice cream after this day of hard work.”
The barometer
Now imagine you grow up in an environment where your voice has been suppressed, or your emotions, or your sexuality.
You have done that for 20 years. 20 years of not speaking out 30 times a day is 219,000 times of not speaking out. That’s 219,000 times added tension in your body.
Now, when you are in the supermarket, you think:
“Why can everybody in this universe see my thoughts?
Why is a helicopter chasing me 24/7?”
Why thoughts matter
If you understand this, in a non-judgemental way, you understand that the quality of your thoughts and the way they change over time actually matters. Because they reflect back the state your whole body is in.
The reason I know this is because a few years ago I thought helicopters were chasing me 24/7, and now, every time I look at reality, I have to cry because it is so beautiful.
Buddhists don’t really seem to grasp this concept. If you breathe your thoughts away, or you distance yourself too much, or you try to get to a stage of no thinking, the problem is that you actually lose one of the biggest indicators and traits nature offers, which is your thoughts.
