Thinking in relationships

I often think in terms of the relationship I build with something.

For example: between me and food.
It’s easy to mess this up (I did).

For a while, I built a relationship solely based on calories. How many calories are in this food?

The problem with this is that you are 100% correct (calorie counting works), yet it’s still a dangerous and unhealthy relationship with something.

Another good example is technology. I still struggle every day to maintain a healthy relationship with it. I want to have a relationship that is mostly functional (calendar, navigation, banking), but I find myself overspending time checking my phone. It always sneaks back in.

Or: with other people. If your relationship with others is only based on giving and taking, you don’t get it. It’s not a trade.

It’s interesting that a universe can have different relationships with us at the same time. It doesn’t interfere with life and death, but it can interfere with other things.
