What Buddhists Will Never Understand

That only the ‘now’ exists is true. There is never a moment other than now. We carry the past with us in memories.

But there’s a good reason why our thoughts drift to the past: to learn from it. If we were to live only in the now, we would never be able to reflect on things that happened before.

And if we had no information from the past at all, we wouldn’t even know where we live. We’d walk out the door and never be able to find our way back.

That being said, there does come a time when you need to let go of the past. I’ve learned from it. And now it’s time for the next step.

From a Machine's Perspective

Intelligence and consciousness do not exist without drawbacks.
Because a machine doesn’t feel pain, it doesn’t know the consequences of behavior.
Therefore, it can’t be intelligent.
The whole learning component is out of the equation.

Let’s say I am working out, and I fall on my knee. My knee is bleeding. Now I have to make a decision – this is where real intelligence comes in. Was the workout worth it or not?

From a machine’s perspective, these things do not exist. It doesn’t have to make decisions like this; there are no drawbacks. Therefore, there is no balance – and without balance, there is no intelligence.

Another way to put it: human intelligence is heavily tilted toward balancing between extremes.
It’s about pushing nature for progression, but also learning to ease off sometimes.
Truth is what you’ll find in the middle.
