What is courage?
Admitting that you're afraid.
We can all shout that we're not scared and act tough. The strongest people simply admit it. That makes them invulnerable. It's a very special quality.
In many cultures, this goes wrong: it's all about working harder, exercising more, and becoming stronger.
If you have thoughts about suicide, that’s not a bad thing. That doesn’t mean you are going to commit suicide.
There are no good or bad thoughts. A thought is a piece of electricity. That doesn’t mean that all thoughts are meaningless, though.
Does thinking bad thoughts or negative thoughts lead to sickness?
Of course not. But boxing yourself in with limiting thoughts means that you won’t go outside, and therefore feel worse. But that has nothing to do with the thoughts themselves.
Does positive thinking help?
No. If you try to think positive, you’re already forcing yourself not to look at something negative. Trying to think positive means there is something else you don’t want to think about. If you only had positive thoughts and feelings, you wouldn’t spend one second thinking about this.
You can think about something fun, though—like your dog, your family, or the face of somebody you love.
Being resilient helps too. Bad thoughts will come. You will go down. But you’ll get up faster and faster.
My problem with consciousness is very simple: there’s analyzing and there’s doing. Both are important.
If you’re scared to sit down and face your thoughts and feelings, you have a problem.
If you only analyze your thoughts and feelings without going outside, you have a problem too.
Consciousness has a ‘Buddhist’ character, an enlightenment character, but in reality, it’s extremely raw—like sweating and pain.
What is happiness?
Doing what you like as much as you can.
And then you get to those moments.
Those moments after working out, when you walk outside and the sun hits your face, and you get that indescribable feeling—that everything is perfect.
Let’s do an experiment.
Let’s think about the worst thing that can happen for five minutes.
Let’s see if that thing will happen.
