How much wanting to change yourself is acceptable?
First: you change yourself the whole time. When you become hungry, something changes in your body. Now you eat. Now you have changed something about yourself, and in your environment.
But when we talk about changing things that are fundamentally you, it's harder. I think this requires a very fine balance. We live in times where we want to overly change things about people. Somebody has a lot of thoughts? Let's hand that person pills. A weird nose? Let's facilitate a nose job. There is no end to this. It's like wanting to change the foundation of something that was already perfect in the first place.
So ask yourself, how much change is acceptable? Braces? Yellow teeth? Or do you want full lips?
Or are you a panicky person, like me? I don't know, ma'am, I have always been a shy guy. But hey.
That being said, there are things that you always should be able to fix within yourself. Like certain behaviours. Or that you can name it when you feel bad, that you complain within yourself. Don't lie to yourself about that. "I feel like garbage." That's honesty.
But for a lot of other things, it's more about accepting that everything was already perfect as it was. I mean, I like my rigid OCD kind of behaviours. Gives me sense of control, you know.
I therefore like a lot of religious ideas. That people, in a way, and universe, is already more perfect than you think it is (that doesn't mean without flaws) but that most don't see that. Which is the real problem.
